What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral. The crystal formation of asbestos is in the form of long thin fibers. Because of its versatility, asbestos can be found in many types of building materials. Asbestos was primarily used as an insulator or fire retardant, and although the federal government placed a moratorium on the production of most asbestos products in the early 1970's, use of asbestos containing products continued through into the early 1980's.
